Description

Quarantine is boring. But let’s make it fun by talking about origami!

Each session we invite an amazing origami artist and talk with them about their personal journey, origami, creative process, quarantine time and much more!

About Jospeh Wu:
Vancouver-based artist Joseph Wu encountered origami at the age of three and began creating original designs at the age of eleven. Active in the international origami community, he has attended conferences, taught classes, given lectures, and exhibited works in many parts of the world.

Joseph’s work has been shown internationally. His work has appeared in many publications, including Rolling Stone, O Magazine, and the New York Times. His clients have included Stolichnaya Vodka, Intel and Air Canada, and he has produced on-set art for such TV shows and movies as Fringe and Underworld 4.

Joseph designed, built and installed a 180-foot long origami light sculpture that is the centrepiece of Botanist restaurant at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. His collaboration with Tangible Interaction, “Jelly Swarm” appears each winter at the Vancouver Aquarium.

In this session: Joseph talks about lessons and experiences gained while doing origami for over 45 years. We are going to chat with Joseph about doing commercial origami works, origami as fine art and the personal journey of battling ADHD and depression with origami. A look inside the life of yet another origami "character".

How it works:
We use the conferencing system Zoom. Please be aware that the session is being recorded and the available seats are limited to 100. We suggest you join on your laptop as the Zoom app on mobile and tablet is bit harder to work with.

Each session has 2 parts. In the first half Ali will be asking questions and for the second half you can write down your question in the chat box and we call up on your name and you will ask your question directly from the artist. We will try to go through as many questions as the time allows.
