A minor change in the starting position can promise a significant change at the final model. Applying the Fold of Beauty on an octagon is the principal of the Dish.
4 or 5 years ago I dared to try and developed my own model. Starting from a water bomb base, I divided the paper to 8 (by 2 diagonals and 2 medians) and then to 16 by adding a fold between each 2 creases. From there I continued, I don’t remember how exactly, and finished with this dish by what I had considered as sheer luck. For years I left it as it is, not trying to redo it, not knowing how, or brave enough to try to re-engineering it by unfolding, too afraid to lose my only own model ever.
After my tenth model, I gathered enough courage and took it of the shelf in my office, brushed the dust away, and undo the last creases. Going all the way back to the square paper it use to be, I realized how simple it was.
Making the sweets was easier. It is a variation of a variation of Mette Pederson Ring, although I got to the 3D ring without knowing about the original ring.

What a nice little model. Not too difficult, but it looks great. I folded one from a sheet of scrapbooking paper and everyone who comes into my office notices it. Almost makes it look like I know how to fold :)
