Date and time
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Level

Teacher
Maureen Miller-Calamo

Here’s one for the bookworm. Why not fold and write your own book (talk about self-published!). Using a single piece of paper, albeit a large one, Maureen will show you how to fold a book with 10 pages. She will also provide instructions on how to print and order the text prior to folding. Here’s the chance for that novel in you to burst forth!

Elephant

Date and time
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Level
High Intermediate
Teacher
Heidi Lenney

Trumpet your origami prowess for all to hear and see. Practice your folding skills with this Elephant by Jo Nakashima. This model has a sink fold, spread squash folds, squash folds, petal folds and rabbit ear folds. And since elephants never forget, this model can be turned into a bookmark with a few alternate folds, so that you can always find your place.

Afternoon Classes

Star Sophia

Date and time
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Level
Low Intermediate
Teacher
Alice Baldwin-Jones

Starry, starry night. This is the perfect class for those who are awestruck by modulars but were too afraid to try folding one. Alice will gently guide you through the simple and satisfying steps which are well landmarked. As with all modulars, the locks are what makes or breaks (literally) a model, and these are firm. Alice will teach a variation and more as time permits.

Maria’s Melange

Date and time
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Maria Velasquez

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket…well almost. Maria will teach an assortment of models which include Maria's Sinayskaya’s Star Monika, Haggit Shalev's variation of Mark's Kennedy's star and models from the new book "Pocket Origami" by Yuko Fujimoto. Star Monika is a very decorative 6-pointed star. The folds in Haggit’s star are straight forward but the collapse can be challenging. The pocket models are cute and fun to fold. All have a small pocket where one can place a coin or note - as a gift or decoration.

Clover Fujimoto

Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Level

Teacher
Nathan Ascher

Limber up those fingers for this fun and cool class. Featuring one of Fujimoto’s famous tessellations, Nathan will patiently guide you through the steps and iterations to produce a square grid model that resembles a flower. Precision folding is definitely a plus in this class.

Bald Eagle

Date and time
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Brendan Miller

Now’s a good time to remember what the national bird symbolizes. John Montroll’s Bald Eagle is a pleasure to fold in its relative simplicity and two-toned finish. Efficient use of paper means the model is completed in a timely manner without sacrificing form. Accessible to the precocious beginner and experienced folder alike, any remaining time will allow for styling for personal aesthetics and a unique touch.
