This is the third (and best) version of my Praying Mantis design. Quite a bit more complicated than my other two designs I have diagrammed (star, manta ray), it utilizes circle packing.
To design this model, I sketched out a stick figure on graph paper. I was using Robert's design secrets to assist me, as this is the first circle packing model I have ever designed. I eventually got a rough prototype made, but I couldn't progress much further from where I was at. I sent Robert an email, and he told me to enter the stick figure I came up with into treemaker, which is what I got the 1.1 and 1.2 versions from. I wasn't pleased with the way the flaps were, so I started toying around with the base and after about a week got the version that I have diagrammed.
I would classify this model is high-intermediate or complex. It should take about 2-3 hours to complete. You need to utilize wet-folding, methylcellulose, or tissue foil in order to shape the model correctly.
