This is an octagonal spinner made of one sheet of square paper.
The model is flat when completed, but shaping the square at the center of finished model into a four-pointed-star by reinforcing existing creases lifts up the four tacked-in flaps and outer edge of the bottom octagon and makes the model 3D to form a spinner.
A six inch square produces a spinner that is about 2.5 inches across.
Symmetrically color-shaded paper like “Corona” and “Harmony” will make a nice color effect on the finished model as shown in photos.
This model is fairly simple but rated “intermediate” because an “open-sink” fold is required.
The model can be flattened for storage and reshaped later as many times as needed, so it can be sent to your friend in a regular envelope too!
