In accordance with the organizational bylaws, the OrigamiUSA Board of Directors appointed Eric Gjerde to fill the open Remote Board seat for the 2008-2009 term. Eric will serve out the rest of the 1-year 2008-2009 term; the seat will be then be open again in the regular 2009 election (although Eric can of course run for re-election). Eric has become widely known through his creation and building of the tessellation community, and the Board looks forward to Eric's community-building skills as our newest Remote member.
In related news, at the Board meeting on July 10, it was decided to defer Board elections for officers (normally held in July) until the August, 2008 Board meeting. Until that time, Marc Kirschenbaum, 2007-2008 Local Vice President, will continue his current role as Acting President; Wendy Zeichner, 2007-2008 Treasurer, will continue as Acting Treasurer; and Robert J. Lang, 2007-2008 Remote Vice President, will continue as Acting Remote Vice President. The position of Secretary that was previously held by Tom Hull, who retired, will remain vacant until the elections. Elections are planned for the August 14 Board meeting, at which time the full 11-member Board (including Eric) will vote on all officer positions.
