This is a listing of the Special Sessions for October 15, 2023, both morning and afternoon sessions.
Crane Wreath
What better way to express the peace of paper than a wreath of origami cranes! Let Louise entertain you with this modular by Tomoko Fuse. She will show you how to link 4 to 8 cranes to spectacular effect. Students should come to class with a minimum of 12 pre-folded cranes with the head finished but the tail not. This will allow ample time to explore variations in design.
Halloween Ring
Scare your dinner guests with this spooky Halloween Ring which makes a perfect table centerpiece. A variation of Nobuko’s Puff Ring, the units are modified to make a pumpkin, a cat, a bat, and a tombstone. Precise folding is encouraged in order to make a ring. Add a flower arrangement in the middle and you’re all set for a boo-tiful holiday!
Lion
Be the King of the land with this fantastic Lion. Jax will show you all the tricks to result in a model that will make you proud. The folding sequence includes open sinks, closed sinks and a terrific color change. This ferocious feline features a detailed 3D head and body that begs for some sculpting and works well out of tissue foil. Of course, it’s awfully cute too. Come for a roaring good time!
Family Fun - Action Models
Get into the action as Maria teaches models that will delight you and your family and friends. These models will hop, spin, talk, fly and flap their way into your heart. There will also be a game model. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For Family Fun (beginner) classes you must be at least 5 years old. Children between 5 and 8 must have a parent or guardian register and take the class with them. Adults not accompanying children are also welcome!
Models from Recycled Rectangular Paper - CANCELLED
THIS CLASS IS CANCELLED!
Put that pile of scratch paper by your printer to good use and fold them into something fun and useful. Explore the possibilities of the rectangle as Toshiko puts you through your paces. She will teach you simple variations of traditional models. Let no piece of paper go to waste. Recycle, reuse, and repurpose.
Ghost
Spread the spirit of the season with this sinister specter. Draped in a long robe with a cowl and arms outstretched, this ghoulish humanoid creature is coming for you. Not to worry, Alice will protect you and guide you through the folds, none of which are fiendish. This model is fun to make and a real scream.
Bascetta Star
Be prepared to be dazzled by this modern classic. Ever since its introduction, this 30-piece modular by Paolo Bascetta has delighted folders for more than 20 years. It outshines many similar stars with its incredibly strong locks. Once everything is in place, it will not fall apart. Let Guru show the pleasures of assembling this scintillating model.
