Dollar Pegasus

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Level

Teacher
Marcio Noguchi

Fly high and soar. This awesome Pegasus really is folded from just a dollar bill. It has good proportions and definition of the body and wings. Even though the folding sequence has sinks and double rabbit ears, Marcio will get you through. This is a great opportunity for those who want to step up to more complex folding techniques.

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Get connected. Join John as he teaches you his original creation out of Metrocards. Strong and nimble fingers are needed to fold 12 transit cards into these interlocking tetrahedra. Once locked, they are nearly indestructible. They also look really cool on your desk. No need to bring your old Metrocards, we have plenty.

What a hoot. These cute owls are designed to perch but can also be easily used on greeting cards. Kathy has mastered them all and is eager to show you how to make your own out of bird bases or partial bird bases. She will teach at least 3 models and more as time permits. Be wise and fold these owls.

Louise will teach a complete ensemble of flower, leaf and vase. The flower can also be folded from a pentagon. Experiment with different duo papers for that extra touch.

Afternoon Classes

Cactus in a Pot

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
High Intermediate
Teacher
Tony Cheng

Ouch! Not to worry, the worst you’ll get is a paper cut; there are no spines on this fantastic cactus. Tony continues his exploration of the classics with this modern one created by David Petty. This one-piece, pleated model requires precision and a little patience but is well worth it. Students will also learn to laminate green tissue paper to foil to get a more realistic model. Just don’t water it.

Quilted Ball

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Doug Caine

Come to a folding bee. This lovely 12-piece modular features a quilt-like pattern on each facet. You’ll have fun choosing colors and patterns to highlight the bands that encircle this truncated icosahedron. The module is Doug’s own variation of something he learned years ago of unknown origin. Extra points for anyone who can identify the original creator!

Origami in the Classroom

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Aldo Putignano

Find your inner child. Create a colorful collage using a simple origami swan on a background of special crayons and paint: a landscape of mountains, trees, lake and sunset sky---really stunning. Make a sculpture using a simple penguin shape done in candy colors (cherry, lemon, grape, etc.) on a mound of marshmallow snow (crumpled white paper)---very tasty indeed. This promises to be another fun session led by the ever resourceful Aldo.

Pretty Pentagonal Posies

Date and time
Apr. 10, 2011 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Rachel Katz

Don’t be a square. Centering a pentagon in a bulls-eye patterned paper results in one-piece flowers that look as if made from two or more. Rachel will teach this technique and apply it to a flat flower suitable for cards and a 3-D flower by Meenakshi Mukerji.

Traditional Japanese Models

Date and time
