Decorate your home, your packages and cards with seasonal origami ornaments and models. There will be a wide assortment of models to make. Many of them “go seasonal” merely through the thoughtful selection of decorative paper and therefore are suitable for many uses. It’s never too early to get into the spirit of the holidays.

Candy will make you dizzy with a variety of spinning models. Makoto Yamaguchi’s famous multi-piece Makotokoma will be taught along with a popular simple square spinner by Yami Yamauchi, a modular spinner by Nick Robinson, and Carnival Spinner by Marcia Joy Miller. Motion-sickness bags will not be provided.

This star decoration is a snap to make as long as you have Louise as your teacher. Gorgeous when folded from foil, this 12-piece modular by Jorge Pardo shone at the Convention. As time permits, Louise will teach variations with a different assembly, a 10-piece version and modifications of the unit.

Don’t be intimidated by a 60-piece modular! Kay and John are here to help. Not only are the rectangular units easy to fold, but they are also easy to connect. The less adventurous might use a spot of glue here or there to aid in assembly but the model does not need glue to stay together. Your efforts will pay off when you end up with a spectacular open-framed Star Ball!

Learn a few easy models and then learn how to teach them to people of all ages and abilities at a table set-up with access to the public, a.k.a. Teaching Tables. This class is free to those who commit to volunteer two hours for OrigamiUSA at the upcoming Teaching Table events at the museum in 2013-14. Recreate your very own Jurassic park starting with this realistic stegosaurus. A classic among favorite dinosaur models, this steggie features armored plates and tail spikes. Not to worry; Lorne and Wes are on hand to protect you from the double sinks and inside reverse folds. As usual, the folding sequence is very pleasurable and is typical for John Montroll. It includes many of his signature moves.
