Folding+Mathematical Thinking

I routinely use folding in classes for both college math majors and professional development for teachers. This class will take a different approach from most folding & math classes/books. We will be focusing on ways to use paper folding to support and foster mathematical thinking -- what the Common Core calls mathematical practice standards -- rather than using folding to teach specific math content. (Don't worry: there will be math content as well since we need something to think about!) We will do a few exercises that my math teacher workshop participants have found especially fun and useful. Then we will discuss different places these exercises can be used in the middle and/or high school curriculum. I will provide paper in the specific sizes needed. Workshop, with hands-on participation by the students.
