The Home-Office of OrigamiUSA resides in the prestigious American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) through the generosity of the Museum Trustees. As part of our efforts to provide service to the Museum, OrigamiUSA:
- Decorates a14 foot Holiday Tree with exhibition quality models (on display from November to January).
- Provides volunteers to teach folding simple origami models at Teaching Tables in the Museum. This includes tables while the tree is up, school vacation weeks in February, April and the summer. It also includes special events run by the Museum such as Holiday events (e.g. Halloween), Member events and sleep-overs.
These areas are critical to maintaining and expanding our relationship with the AMNH. To help with these efforts, OrigamiUSA has two open positions to fill:
Volunteer Manager
Job Description:
- Contact and schedule volunteers to teach at Teaching Tables and AMNH events.
- Work with Executive Director and Administrator to develop Volunteer:
- Training Program
- Recruitment and Retention
- Appreciation
Qualifications:
- Good communications skills using all methods including phone, email and in person with a sensitivity to people of all ages and abilities.
- Experience teaching simple origami models, or willingness to learn.
- Available to attend or participate in some of the events where teaching is held in the Museum.
- Time commitment for this job ranges between 2-5 hours per week (with most of the time in the autumn season.)
- Willing to make a commitment to this position for at least one year.
- Start immediately.

Holiday Tree Co-Designer
Job Description:
Work with AMNH personnel and co-designer (Ros Joyce) to:
- Develop tree theme which may include a visit to the museum for inspiration.
- Model research (using the OrigamiUSA reference library).
- Contact folders to obtain models.
- Prepare models for the tree – selection of old and stemming of new models.
- Work with various AMNH departments including: Exhibition, Public Relations, Graphics and Electrical.
- Trim the tree (5 days in November 9:30am – 4pm) while accommodating photographers and videographers.
- Take down the tree in January (1 day)
Qualifications:
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of origami models and ability to research.
- Experienced folder a plus.
- Start immediately to learn the ropes and take over the co-designer position from Delrosa Marshall beginning in 2014.
