OrigamiUSA is launching a new project to engage and empower younger members of the paperfolding community by allowing them to take an active role in the organization. Selected applicants will help guide the formation of a new “Junior Board” that will operate semi-autonomously within the organization’s management structure. Broadly defined, the Junior Board will focus on development activities related to younger members of the community. These activities and initiatives will be developed by the Junior Board using OrigamiUSA resources. In addition to managing its own portfolio of initiatives, the Junior Board will provide recommendations to the Board of Directors on matters of organizational policy that affect the membership.

During its formation, Junior Board activities will be moderated by a member of the Board of Directors and some Junior Board actions may be recommended to provide structure. After its establishment, the Junior Board will assume control over its membership, discussions, and initiatives.

Ideal applicants for the Junior Board would be young people (between 13 and 21 years old at the start of the term) with experience in school or community organizations and who possess the ability to formulate and develop projects from conception to completion. Previous experience with social media platforms, graphic design software, fundraising, or related activities would be beneficial. OrigamiUSA membership is not required. Additionally, applicants must be able to converse in English.

The initial term for a Junior Board member will be for one year with opportunity for renewal. During this startup phase, members will most likely be working to develop an online event or activity before shifting to projects of their own conception.

Applications will open May 5, 9:00 am EDT, and close June 6, 6:00 pm EDT.

A few weeks after applications are closed, finalists will be chosen for a short video interview before the final selections are made.
