Origami tessellations are different from most other types of origami because they can repeat infinitely, and so there’s no fixed amount of pattern that forms a model.
In Advent of Tessellations I’ll teach a series of 25 origami tessellation patterns at a small scale in video tutorials that are released daily from Dec. 1-25, progressing from easier to harder patterns over the course of the challenge.
You can sign up for the challenge for free at https://training.gatheringfolds.com/advent to get daily email reminders and crease pattern PDFs when the videos are released!
This will be my third year running this challenge, and each year has a distinct set of patterns.
The patterns this year focus on hybrid hexagon twists - a particularly fruitful source of new patterns that can create more organic-looking designs than conventional geometric tessellation patterns while remaining foldable directly from the grid.
Like the last two rounds of Advent of Tess, I have Skytone paper packs, hexagon templates, and an ebook with crease patterns of multiple possible continuations of each pattern available for purchase at https://gatheringfolds.com if you’d like to get the best tools for completing the challenge and support the effort that went into the videos.
