Thank you to everyone who sent in origami elephants!
OrigamiUSA partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and its official attempt to break the Guinness World Records™ title for the largest display of origami elephants to bring attention to the 35,000 elephants that are killed each year for their ivory.
The submission date for sending in elephants has passed and the response was overwhelming. Elephants have been received from over 36 countries and more than 42 states. Many, many more than the goal of 35,000 elephants have been received and we expect to break the record when the official count is done. Boxes of elephants are still being opened and sorted!
The WCS is grateful for the participation of the origami community and sending in so many beautifully folded elephants. Thanks also to the tireless volunteers who have been working with the WCS to set up the display.
The WCS will be posting updates here about the plans for the display.
