Nicolas Terrys Crane
Take your crane to a whole new level with Nicolas Terry’s elegant model. With its long, thin legs and neck, it is just begging to be posed into a variety of postures. Jinni will get you through some double sinks and double rabbit ears and help you to find the perfect posture. Let your imagination soar.
Heart Box and Card
Learn Francis Ow’s clever Heart Card and then transform it into his Heart Box and another design as time permits. Gay has finally mastered this model after repeatedly learning it and then forgetting it multiple times. She will share with you her secrets for remembering this folding sequence.
Penguin Colony
Doesn’t everyone love penguins? You’re sure to fall in love with this instantly recognizable origami model. A variety of penguins will be taught, including a 3-D one as well as simpler, flat ones that are perfect for ATC’s and greeting cards. One variation is particularly good for folding with young children because it teaches several basic folds and results in a penguin that stands.
Butterfly for Kyoto
Michael LaFosse’s newest butterfly was designed to commemorate his first visit to the former capital of Japan. The fan-shape in the hind wings is a visual nod to the history of the Japanese folded fan, which is famously from Kyoto. Beautiful handmade tissue foil by Kathy Stevick will be used. Other butterflies will be taught as time permits.
Halloween
Don’t be scared. Bernice will teach a group of spooky models just in time for Halloween. A rocking ghost and a witch on a broomstick will join a bat, an owl and a pumpkin for a perfect haunted holiday. Create just the right mood for a night of tricks and treats.
Flower Pot
Omer continues the exploration of tessellations with his original flower pot which was taught at Convention this year. If you missed it, now’s the time to try it. This graceful design features a Japanese fan tessellation on top. Dig out those gorgeous papers and make a whole greenhouse full.
Mengers Sponge
A what?!? A Menger’s Sponge is a cubical mathematical figure that can be added to indefinitely if you have the room, time and patience. Doug will show you how to connect business cards into a cube and then connect the cubes to each other. The faces of the cubes can be paneled for a smoother, finished look. Jeannine Mosely, the creator of this model, made one that was several feet high. Folding is super simple, assembly is somewhat trickier.
Letterfolds and Envelopes
It’s the thought that counts, so make it even more special with letterfolds and origami cards and envelopes. Showcased will be cute animal folds that hold a message. These will include an elephant, a dog and many others as time permits. “Mom, there’s an elephant in the mailbox!”
Real Tea Bag Folds
Teabag folding has evolved into a scrapbooking niche. But that kind of folding requires small squares of patterned paper. In this class, you will fold with REAL tea bag wrappers and take advantage of the unique shape. Toshiko has collected some interesting models, including a plane and a llama. Materials fee to be collected in class: $5.
