Fuse Quilt
It might not keep you warm on chilly spring nights but it certainly makes a beautiful decoration. Cozy up to this class and Alice will teach you one of Tomoko Fuse’s origami quilts. Using a simple base and connector units, you can design your own wild and crazy patterns. It’s the perfect project to use up your stash of pretty papers.
Cats and Kittens
Dog lovers are allowed to take this class. This cute collection of felines will surely elicit warm and fuzzy feelings. Bernice has assembled a variety of adorable cats that are fun and easy to fold. Maybe you can come up with your own variations to alter the poses. Just be careful you don’t end up with a house full of cats!
Fancy Tree
You won’t need an axe to cut down any trees, but scissors will be used to make this festive and fancy tree. Starting with a flower/umbrella base, this model has small slits to make the branches. Sandy will provide gorgeous paper and printed instructions. Make a whole forest if you dare.
Curler Unit Balls
This model has a lot of WOW factor. Your friends won’t be able to believe that you made such an impressive ornamental ball without glue! Louise will teach you how to make a 12 piece model. Assembly methods for 24 and 30 unit models will be discussed as time permits. Students should be able to make a waterbomb base and be comfortable with curling paper.
Family Fun - Action Models
Who said it isn’t easy being green? Let Donna teach you this multi-piece, articulated lizard that is as much fun to fold as it is to play with. Learn to fold repeated modules and put them together to make a much more complex-looking model. Some simple action frogs will be taught as time permits. Ages 7 and up.
Modular Flower and Variations
Many of you know the pipe cleaner flower: just fold three simple modules, add a pipe cleaner, and, voilà, a lovely decoration within the ability of every beginning folder. However, if you add some more modules, switch the paper, and get creative, you can build variations that result in a lovely bouquet, just in time to celebrate Spring.
Square Root of Three
Don’t be a square! All the models in this class use rectangles with the proportion of one by the square root of three. Kathy will enlighten you about the wonderful geometric properties of this magical ratio. She will teach you a variety of stars and ornaments using 6 modules, although some models can be assembled as 30 piece modulars.
What Bugs You?
You may have seen one around (hopefully not in your house), now you can fold one that will not stink. This classic bug by John Montroll features the pleasing folding sequences that John is famous for. But Mark has also developed a simple method for the initial folding. He will also provide hand-made tissue foil and offer tips for folding with this pliable material.
Fujimoto Hydrangea with Variation
Here’s a new twist on a modern classic. Fujimoto’s Hydrangea has captivated folders around the world with its challenging folding sequence of sinks and collapses and spectacular results…from one piece of paper! Arlene has devised two methods of closing the back of the model that make it flatter and more attractive from behind. These methods feature a braided or woven back using the last thin layer of the model. Bring tweezers if you have them, although some will be available.
Stellated Eifel Star Variation
No, that’s not a typo. Eifel is a German region near Belgium. Our resident “modular fanatic” Doug Caine will teach Hans-Werner Guth’s 12 piece modular star. The photo shows two different color schemes. If time permits (and you ask him nicely), he will also teach the 8 piece star by Enrica Dray (also in photo).
