This is a listing of the Special Sessions for March 19, 2023, both morning and afternoon sessions.
Family Fun - Spring Flow
Get ready for Spring with these easy models for the whole family. Many will start with the simple Kite Base that consists of two diagonal folds. Students will be encouraged to go a step further and embellish their creations with crayons/markers/scissors and a background. For Family Fun (beginner) classes, you must be at least 5 years old. Children between 5 and 8 must have a parent or guardian register and take the class with them. Adults unaccompanied by children are also welcome.
Stretchy Ball with Super Nobu Unit
Get those fingers limbered up. This fun modular is made from 30 units which are easy to fold but assembling them can be tricky. But not to worry, Nobuko will guide you through to completion and also show you ways to create different fantastic modulars, as time permits. Previous experience with modulars is helpful and recommended. Soon, you’ll have a house full of these fun and fabulous models.
Koala on Branch
This class has been CANCELLED. Please do not register for this class.
This adorable model by Steven Casey creates its own scene. Starting with a Stretched Bird Base, Donna will teach you the simpler ‘American Museum’ method of folding a Bird Base as developed by Alice Gray. The model has some unusual but satisfying steps that are done on partially hidden parts that are difficult to see. Along with its ingenious color-change this cute and charming marsupial will be sure to please.
Year of the Rabbit
Gentle, quiet, elegant, and alert. These are some traits of those born in the Year of the Rabbit. Here are some models that also hop and stand as well. Maria will teach a variety of simple to intermediate lagomorphs that can also be used for decorating cards and for games. So, hop to it with these delightful critters, but remember, rabbits can multiply quickly, and you might be overrun by them when you get home.
Shark
Duh-dunn, duh-dunn…you don’t have to get wet for a close encounter with Jaws. Oriol Esteve is justifiably proud of this cartoon-like shark with its wonderful color changes in the belly and teeth. The folding sequence is both clever and straightforward. No need to be afraid of this menace. Wade into the waters with Daniel and you’ll be safe and have fun too.
Origami Puff Star
Let your inner origami spirt shine forth with this amazing model. Although it uniquely starts with a decagon and the crease pattern can be complicated, the final collapses are relatively effortless and quite magical. Needless to say, neatness counts for this one and Kika will help you along the way. So don’t be intimidated. Stretch your skills with this spectacular and stunning star.
