This clever design, based originally on a modular box by Makoto YAMAGUCHI, creates a sturdy box with a removable lid, perfect for small gifts, favors, or holiday decorations. Four pieces of 4:3-proportioned paper make the sides and bottom of the box, and a traditional "masu" box forms the lid. We'll demonstrate how to cut your paper to the correct proportions, how to fold a "masu" with no visible creases, and, if time permits, some Gay's variations that allow you to play more with the colors!
This design also works well from copy paper or other rectangles, and either duo- or mono-colored paper
5 square pieces of origami paper, all the same size. 6-inch paper makes a cube 1.5-inches on a side; 10-inch paper yields a 2.5-inch cube. (Have a few extra squares on hand for the variations, in case we have extra time.)
