We will fold and assemble modular units to form this "open cuboctahedron" shape with some clever constructions along the way. The model requires fairly precise folding to fit together well and look its best, so be prepared to take some time to make accurate units.

Supplies

You will need a total of 24 squares of paper, all the same size, as follows:
1. You need 12 squares to make the 6 "faces" of the model. If you want to make these faces from 2 colors as shown in the photos, you need 6 squares of each color. You can choose other color arrangements or make them just 1 color each, or random. There are lots of possibilities. We will discuss after learning to fold the model.
2. You will need 12 squares to make the pieces that hold the model together & show up as decorative elements on the faces. This paper is a black & white pattern paper in the photos.
3. I suggest you choose 6" square paper for learning. Smaller paper looks great, but is harder to handle unless you are very skilled with it. Choosing paper colors that contrast well enhances the look of the model.
4. You will need a paper slicer or scissors. Please wait until the class starts to cut the paper to make sure you cut them in the right way.

Advisories
  • Uses cuts.
  • This is a modular/composite requiring 24 sheets.
