* BROADCAST-- This class will be presented to students in a classroom at the convention site and simultaneously broadcast to an off-site audience on the web. Origomics: An Analysis of Origami Diagrams as Sequential Art--Have you ever found an origami diagram virtually impossible to follow? Have you ever yourself created an origami diagram and wondered how it could be improved? There is a body of academic study which may assist us in analyzing and improving our diagramming. Origami diagrams may be considered sequential art: the juxtaposition of images in deliberate sequence to convey meaning. In short, origami diagrams are COMICS. This PowerPoint presentation draws on critical analyses by comic critics and artists and delves into the processes of creating and reading sequential art. We will discuss comic artists’ techniques of conveying action, motion and change, and how those techniques can be incorporated into origami diagramming. Note that an early version of this presentation was also given at the East Bay Origami Conference at UC Berkeley in 2013.
