This is a listing of the Special Sessions for November 17, 2024, both morning and afternoon sessions.
The Pagoda
How high can you go? This is a classic and traditional Chinese model that every schoolchild knows in China. So, get with the masses and construct your very own pagoda. Jackie is your architect guide and will start you off with the Waterbomb Base. This ingenious model not only stands but stacks as well. When you get home, try using papers of graduated sizes to build a tapering monument! Other simple traditional models will be taught as time permits.
Dollar Baby Shoes
Hate to say it, but these adorable baby shoes might just be cuter than the baby! Madeline will parent you through this delightful fold out of dollar bills. More moneyfolds that make great gifts or tips will be taught as time permits. Please bring at least two crisp dollar bills to class, or you can practice with play money. With these shoes, the baby will have a prosperous future.
Envelope Folds
Send your loved ones your favorite hobby! A particular genre among origami enthusiasts is letterfolds (and envelopes). Imagine jotting a missive and folding it into a mailable envelope, all out of a single sheet of paper. Nathan will be your postmaster and teach you these easy yet practical models. Forget email and have fun with snail mail...support the
USPS.
Moose & Bear
We may not have lions and tigers here, but the moose and the bear are the mightiest of animals in North America. John will be your expert tracker as you trek through the forest in search of his iconic creations. The mighty moose is the largest living member of the deer family. The design of this model focuses on character and attitude and features distinctive antlers. The bear introduces John’s own Bear Base, which is useful for many four-legged animals with a short tail and detailed head. Both models stand perfectly balanced. Campers, remember to secure your food.
Butterfly and Heart
This beautiful butterfly will certainly make your heart flutter. Cye will teach his original models folded from a 2x1 rectangle. With only one extra fold, the Heart can stand and be a stand for, say the butterfly...how clever. Bring some crisp bills if you want to be adventurous and make both these models from dollar bills.
Two-Bird Card and Envelope
This is one card your friends and family will treasure as a keepsake. Alice will teach you this enchanting card and envelope by Maria Sinayskaya. This useful model consists of a card with a bird on the front and back, with an envelope that wraps around the card so that the front bird peeks out from within. Everyone will wonder how you managed that!
Angel
Sprinkle some magic into your holidays with this modern classic by David Brill. Let Kika wave her wand and show you how to transform a single piece of paper into this fantastic Tree Fairy or Angel. The lovely model has wings, head, arms and legs, and even a dress. She will enliven your holiday tree as an ornament or even a tree topper.
Fractal Flower
It’s enough to tie your fingers into knots. But not to worry, Nathan will show you all the ins and outs of this dazzling fractal star flower by Roman Diaz. There might be easier 8-pointed stars but it’s the journey that counts here. Along the way, you will discover an asymmetrical crease pattern, gussets, sinks and reverse folds. The ‘journey folder’ cares not so much about the end result as the process that leads to the final destination. Bon voyage!
