This is a listing of the Special Sessions for November 16, 2025, both morning and afternoon sessions.
Traditional Models
Make new friends and share the magic of origami and the peace of paper. Whether you are new to origami or are an experienced folder, it is always useful to have a repertoire of traditional models to teach. Let Sang Yul show you some of his favorites, including the crane, flapping bird, waterbomb, star box, jumping frog and others. Meeting new people is easy when you can pull out a piece of paper and transform it into something wonderful.
Thanksgiving Day Parade Models
The Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade starts right here at the Museum. Donna will teach you to fold some of the images you know from the giant balloons and floats. These include Yara Yagi’s action dachshund, Sok Song’s Scolli Pig, red stars, and of course, the star of the parade himself, Santa! You don’t even have to dress warmly, but be sure to snag a seat for this class.
Bat
Yes, Halloween has come and gone but bats come and go all year around. This fantastic model starts with a 16 by 16 grid and employs box pleating and a few sinks to achieve its mischievous expression. Using tissue foil will allow for sculptural effects when you fold this at home. Jax will show you ways to attain maximum scariness. Get ready for next Halloween.
Holiday Angel
Hark, the angels sing! Let this adorable angel herald the holiday season. Ginger will show you how to make the perfect ornament for your holiday tree. She will even provide feathers for you to decorate your angel. Get into the spirit of the season and let your imagination take flight.
Tomato and Mandarin
You don’t like fruit? You’ll love these cute tomatoes and mandarins, just don’t eat them! Jake will teach Makoto Yamaguchi’s model which features color changes and a fun step at the end. Truly a very satisfying fold. Your fruit bowl will never be empty with these around.
