Date and time
Apr. 19, 2009 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
High Intermediate
Teacher
Eric Gjerde
Eric will teach some of his favorite tessellations from his recent book. Tessellations are pleated from a single sheet of paper and create wonderful geometric repeating designs. There is a lot of pre-creasing and some tricky moves, but once you get the hang of it, things fall into place nicely. Give it a try!

Level
High Intermediate
Teacher
Bill Reyes
Here’s a class to make you shine! Join Bill as he shows you how to make a constellation of his original stars from pentagons. These beauties are 3D and incorporate multiple sinks, giving the models additional dimensionality. Accurate and precise folds are needed for the pre-creasing and collapsing of the stars.

Imagine a spiky version of this and you have a stellated icosahedron!  Deanna will teach two versions of Sonobe-type units and students can choose which unit they wish to fold to make the shape. She will teach assembling the 30-piece model with a color pattern—5 colors, 6 each. There should be time to learn the other units to make more at home.

Artist Trading Cards (aka ATC’s) are miniature works of art that are 2.5” x 3.5” in size. Make them and trade them with other ATC artists, either in person or via snail mail. This class will teach the basics of ATC’s and give lots of ideas for using origami with them. You’ll make ATC’s and actually trade with the others in this class. You’ll be prepared to get ready for the Annual ATC swap at the June convention! A $2 materials fee will be collected in class.

Cat’s Cradle and String Figures

Date and time
Apr. 19, 2009 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Not Rated
Teacher
Larry Davis
Cat’s Cradle is always played by two people. Each person picks up the loops of string in different ways and transfers the strings to his own hands forming a new design each time. String figures are more challenging and fun and involve only one person. This workshop will teach some of the most popular string figures including Cup and Saucer, Witch’s Broom, Jacob’s Ladder, Yam, Thief and others as time permits. (Not exactly origami, but the string is folded and it’s fun!)
