Simple Action Models
If you’ve ever wondered how paper can move, jump and blow away, this class is for you. You don’t have to know any origami. Take this class and you’ll be able to amuse and entertain your friends with these clever action models. As time permits, models taught might include a grasshopper, a yapping crow, a flapping butterfly, an acrobatic horse and a windsurfer.
Dancing with the Stars
Let your fingers do the dancing as you make these twinkly wonders. Paula will guide you in creating three stars that can be used on cards or folded larger for decorations. So come one come all and learn to fold beautiful stars. Additional models will be taught as time permits.
Jump Ball
That’s origami!?!? But it’s round! Well, yes. A little scoring is the key which makes this model so eye-catching. The units of this 6-piece modular are scored, shaped then fitted together. Participants will work with printed designs and templates to assist them in making accurate, attractive 3D curves. Twelve pieces of paper make up the six units. Louise will provide all the necessary materials for a rolling good time.
Origami Animal Sculptures
Commune with the great outdoors (while indoors)! John will teach a selection of models from his new book Origami Animal Sculptures. Possible subjects include Common Loon, Adirondack Moose, Foxy Fox Brown Bear, Lizard, Snapping Turtle and others. Models range from Intermediate to Complex.
Family Fun - Holiday Models
Maria will teach some easy ornaments that are great for the holidays. If time permits, a holiday tree will also be taught. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For children ages 8 and up.
Swirl Star
Who knew that the humble waterbomb base could be so versatile and cool? From the newest Shumakov book Starry Revolution, this model will provide endless hours of folding fun. Join Rachel as she shows you how this simple waterbomb base module can be connected to form a flat 8-piece star. Add more modules to form a snake-like decoration. Go completely wild and add many, many modules to make a smashing revolving toy.
Jolly Santa
“Ho, ho, ho” is what you’ll be saying as you tap Santa’s hat and his belly jiggles. Jolly Santa is one of Marcia’s original models and makes a great place setting decoration (everyone gets one!) or a package accent. There’s still plenty of time to master this delightful model in time for Christmas.
Mom and Pop Models
That is, our origami moms and pop. Let Jan teach you models created by or associated with the founders of OrigamiUSA: Lillian Oppenheimer, Michael Shall, and Alice Gray. All are ingenious and fun…learn the models, hear some stories about why the models were important to them, and to the history of origami. They are still fun to fold today.
Rabbit - Online Class
Follow Marcio down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. This adorable critter features a color-change for the jacket. Although this model has multiple open and closed sinks, you will have a ring-side seat at this class to follow along. This class will be broadcast over the Internet! You can be located anywhere to attend this class. The only requirement is a computer connected to a good quality network. A chat room will be available to enable interactivity with the instructor as well as other participants. This is the same platform that was used successfully during the 2014 convention.
