If we start with a piece of paper cut in any regular polygonal shape and apply symmetric folding, the result will show surprisingly interesting patterns. I named this new paper folding pastime Polygonal Medallion. In this class polygons with a spiraling pattern will be presented. To create spiraling behavior, each unit is drawn with the same reduction scale factor. We use a 7 unit reduction scale factor for the hexagon. Hands-on experience will help students to understand this idea using pre-cut printed papers to make medallion-like objects. Students are required to do precise scoring along the diagram lines and then fold along the pre-creased lines. Please bring a ruler for scoring. Precut printed papers and ball point pens (red & blue) will be provided.
