Family Fun: Favorite Models
Kika will teach some of her favorite simple models which is a wonderful way to learn some origami basics and have some fun! This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For Family Fun (beginner) classes you must be at least 5 years old. Children between 5 and 8 must have a parent or guardian register and take the class with them. Adults not accompanying children are also welcome!
Origami Beyond Disabilities
Whether you are a parent, a teacher, or a therapist, origami is a useful tool to help those with challenges. As an art therapist, Toshiko has developed her own unique philosophy of using origami in therapeutic settings. She will discuss her approach and teach traditional models with a few modifications that she has used to great success in her work.
Cockatiel
Polly want a cracker? This gorgeous cockatiel is so realistic that you’ll be offering it snacks. Alexander will teach his original model of 56 steps that has some unorthodox manipulations. The folding sequence includes some unwraps and unsinks as he calls them but also features wonderful and revealing color changes for the cheeks, eyes and beak.
Spike Cube
No one will ever believe that such a gnarly model is made of only 6 pieces of paper. Alice will make sure you don’t get pricked as she leads you through the fun steps to assemble this amazing modular by Hongyi Wan. Precision folding will ensure nice sharp points. The 6 units are put together to form a cube but extends outward with its formidable spikes Yikes!
