Odds and ends will longer clutter your room when you have this remarkable modular series of containers. Also known as Tatos, these small containers all join together without any glue. Nobuko will show you how to fold rectangles into small boxes. Two of these boxes will then nest and fit into a rectangle box. Two rectangle boxes in turn will be attached into a larger box. Make a whole series of them for a quilt-like effect. Who knew decluttering could be so much fun.

Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Maria Velazquez

If you missed PCOC 2023, here’s your chance to catch up with some of Robert Lang’s creations. Unlike other origami tetrahedra, each of the 4 units form a vertex of the modular, which then slots into one another for a firm hold. The $Crane is made from 2 dollar bills which are brilliantly held together without adhesive. Students should bring at least 5 crisp dollar bills to class. Maria has a knack for always finding fun folds to share.
Students should be able to fold a crane from memory and be at the Intermediate folding level.

Mette Ring

Level
Low Intermediate
Teacher
Nanci Britt

It’s never too early to start thinking about the holidays. Nanci uses this modular ring by Mette Pedersen as a Christmas wreath embellishing it with other origami such as stars, hearts and birds. It goes without saying that no wreath is complete without a bow, so she will teach that also (minor cuts required). Play with different combinations of patterned paper for that ideal look. As with all modulars, assembly can be a bit of a handful until that final unit locks in.

Golden Coqui

Teacher
Marcos Orengo

Ribbit, ribbit. No, that’s not how these delightful yellow frogs sound. Calling out “koki, koki” in their native Puerto Rico, the golden coqui is now sadly extinct in the wild. Relive their glory days with Marcos who will teach you his origami version of these adorable creatures out of gold foil paper. May their essence long reverberate throughout the Caribbean and beyond.
