An Orchid for Susie Saturday, June 27, 2020, 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm EDT Level: Complex Presenter: Michael LaFosse Details Description: I became deeply fascinated by orchids back in the early 1970s. Having learned about blintzed bases via Samuel Randlett’s books, “The Art of Origami,” and “The Best of Origami,” I began designing origami orchid blossoms. This is one of my earliest, and it is named for my sister, Susie. I shall demonstrate the essentials on how to fold this model, dry, and after this “dry run,” I shall show various wet-folding methods for final shaping. Paper: This model is best when folding any thin, strong paper measuring at least 12-inches square (30 cm) but not larger than 20-inches (50 cm). Solid or duo-colored are both acceptable, but I will be using a duo for the demonstration, and so it might be more helpful to use duo if you have it. Read more about An Orchid for Susie

Paper: This model works well with 7-inch (17 cm) kami (white one side), but perhaps 50,000 to 100,000 were successfully folded mostly from standard six-inch (15 cm) kami for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Guinness World Record challenge! Koala Saturday, June 27, 2020, 5:30 pm to 7:15 pm EDT Level: Complex Presenter: Beth Johnson Details Description: This model was inspired by the devastating fires in Australia earlier this year. It has a few tricky steps and some difficult 3D shaping that makes this a little more challenging than it may appear. Materials: one 10 inch square duo paper (kami works well, should be thin to medium weight and strong). Since we can’t do wet folding or shaping with MC in our virtual class, a drop or two of glue (gasp!) will help with the final step (but for you purists, it’s not critical). Read more about Koala
