If you are staying overnight at St. John's, three meals are included with your accommodations for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: each night of your stay entitles you to dinner that night and breakfast and lunch the next day. So, for example, a Sunday night stay includes dinner Sunday and breakfast and lunch on Monday.
If you are not staying in St. John's housing, or if you are staying and you want additional meals such as dinner on the night of your checkout day, you can register for meals when you register for convention. You can only order meals on site if you have paid for a meal card. There is a $10 fee for the card no matter how many meals you actually purchase. Meals are available from Friday dinner through Monday lunch only.
Each meal at the St. John's Montgoris Dining Hall is an all-you-can-eat buffet with multiple stations serving a variety of choices (including gluten-free and vegan options). The food is surprisingly appetizing and fresh for a college campus. Here is their menu for the days of Convention.
There are numerous fast food and grocery store options within several blocks of the school. We will have information available about restaurants that you can reach with a long walk or short bus or taxi ride. We highly recommend, however, that you preorder meals from the St. John's University dining hall.
Prices for meals at the Montgoris Dining Hall are:
- Breakfast: $8.50
- Lunch: $12.00
- Dinner: $16.50
Hours for Montgoris are:
- Breakfast: 7:00am – 9:00am
- Lunch: 11:00am – 2:00pm
- Dinner: 5:30pm – 8:30pm
We will have coffee, decaf and tea available in the Hospitality area before classes.
On Monday night we have a "We've Survived" Banquet Dinner. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet your favorite origami creators and authors, and your new and old friends, in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. This year, there will be an option to purchase dinner only or dinner plus drinks (beer and wine) at an open bar. The banquet will include: garden salad, sliced steak with maple soy glaze , chicken piccata, penne primavera, sole francaise , roasted potato, string beans almondine, tuscan rolls, dessert (mini italian pastries, seasonal fruit), beverages (coffee, tea, decaf, soda and water). The cost is $35 without alcohol, $45 with the open bar. In order to keep the prices reasonable, we've opted for a more casual atmosphere, replacing formal china and linens with less formal place settings — but the food will be good and the camaraderie as rich as ever. If you do not join us at the Monday Banquet, there will be no other dining option on campus that night.
Meals for Non-Folding Companions
Meals for Friday dinner through Monday lunch for non-folding companions (guardians or aides) who are not staying in St. John’s housing can be ordered using the following form. (If they are staying in St. John's housing, their meals will be included.)
Online registration for non-folded meals at Convention is now closed.
