Convention 2014 Volunteering: Ticketing

Count, sort and organize the tickets. This work is mostly done sitting down, but there is more standing required in the final stages of organizing. You may sign up for either the morning timeslot, afternoon timeslot or both if you want stay all day.

Give markers to attendees to highlight the classes they want to take on their schedules. Folks line up to get their tickets with their class schedules in hand. The Marker Handlers manage the distribution and collection of markers and make sure that folks: "Only highlight their first choices, do not highlight sold out classes, and return the markers". This is a job that requires a little bit of hustle.

Announce the priority ticketing numbers, so attendees can line up to get their tickets. The number caller is standing at the microphone the entire time. The assistant and the number caller must pay attention to the Line Bouncer in the Great Hall to know when to call more numbers. The assistant hangs the numbers and posts the Class Sold Out signs.

Stand at the doorway in the back of the Great Hall and organize folks to get in line for ticketing. Let the number caller know when to call the next group of numbers (based on the flow of people into the line). You must stand the entire time.

The line from the Great Hall to Ticketing is long and there are three critical points in the traffic flow that need to be managed. This requires giving a lot of calm instructions and good people skills. You are standing the entire time. Detailed instructions on the traffic patterns will be given the morning of ticketing.

Give tickets for classes to attendees. Take schedules from attendees that have been marked with their first choice for classes and pull the tickets from the board. Beginning at 7:15am, you will pull priority tickets for teachers. Ticketing for the rest of the attendees starts at 8:30am. This job is standing the entire time and is fast paced and requires a patient, cheerful attitude. Priority for this position is given first to those with experience.

Run back and forth between ticketing and the Great Hall to hang up the Sold Out signs as classes sell out during the ticketing process.

Stay at the Big Board and receive red "Sold out" tickets and put them in the correct spot at the Big Board. This is the only mostly sitting job for Ticketing.

Foreign attendees who do not speak English, need help getting their tickets for class. We need a translator for Japanese.
