Level
High Intermediate
Creator(s)
John Montroll
Teacher(s)
Jon Herrity

This is a remarkably beautiful frog that incorporates 12 toes, 2 eyes and a mouth. With a little shaping, this frog can be made to look very realistic! This model incorporates a variety of folds for the intermediate to advanced folder and requires attention to detail. Due to the amount of detail involved, this frog requires a minimum of 2 hours to complete!

Red Kangaroo - 2023

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
John Montroll
Teacher(s)
Jon Herrity

This red kangaroo, which is presented in John Montroll's Origami Symphony No. 9 from 2023 was carefully designed to include a closed back design while removing unnecessary bulk with the paper. It incorporates a beautiful set of ears, which is an important part of the design for mammals, while also incorporating an essence of artistry. With only 21 steps to fold, this is one of the best models in the book! Folders should come prepared understanding squash folds, reverse folds, rabbit-ear folds and crimp folds.

Folded from one sheet of square paper, this model has a very satisfying folding sequence involving a double-sink and four double-squash folds. Creator(s)

Teacher(s)
Matthew Leon

We will learn to fold and assemble the enigmatic Five Intersecting Tetrahedra model using dollar bills. The individual units are easy to fold, but weaving the model together correctly can be quite difficult. We will use some simple techniques to make assembly a little easier. This session will teach how to fold the units. We will fold about 5 units, then students will need to fold the other 25 units prior to the second session, which will teach the assembly.

Slow and steady! This is a very cute two-piece model, with a shell that attaches securely to the body. We will practice making one with 6-inch kami, or whatever you have, then I will provide 4" double-sided kaleidoscope paper which makes a beautiful shell.

Bunny Bill Pop-Up

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Robert Neale
Teacher(s)
Char Morrow

This clever model allows you to have a rabbit pop up out of a hat. It is folded out of one dollar bill --- or a bigger denomination is you have money to throw around :). You need a fairly crisp bill, which you need to supply. I will not supply money. It's not so hard to fold, but some patience is required to work with the model to get it to pop up correctly and to learn how to hold it for best effect. Robert Neale, the designer of this model, is perhaps better known as a magician than an origami artist, but he has designed some great origami models.

Salt Flower

Creator(s)

Teacher(s)

I learned this at the New York convention and always thought how cool the pattern repeats around the model. It requires 8 units total to create 1 model and kami works fine. Miyuki taught a small group post convention after visiting the mineral hall at the American Museum of Natural History.

Reading Diagrams

Level

Teacher(s)
Eric Ma

I’ll bring in some traditional models to the class and we’ll review some of the diagrams together as a group. Diagrams can be defined as a complex language that can be difficult to read. In this class, we’ll walk though some models together and fold a piece together. We’ll go through the basics of reading mountain and valley folds, as well as how the arrows work in your favor. From there, we’ll talk about common patterns you may see in diagrams and linking them to how they’re folded.
