One of the many highlights of this year's Convention will be the origami exhibition by attendees and special guests, which will also be a great treat for those in the New York area!

The exhibition takes place in Liberty 1, 2, 3 on the 3rd floor and will be open to registered conference attendees during the following hours:

  • Saturday: 10:00 am–7:30 pm
  • Sunday: 9:00 am–5:00 pm

The exhibition will be open to the general public during the following hours:

  • Saturday: 10:00 am–4:00 pm
  • Sunday: 10:00 am–4:00 pm

For the general public, please see ta volunteer by the door for a sticker to allow you entrance.

Exhibit Etiquette

Touching or handling any of the artwork is not allowed for any reason. If you would like to learn more about a model you must obtain permission from the artist to do so.

Photography in the exhibition is allowed for personal use only. "Personal use" means one's own records and/or posting on one's own non-commercial web page or social network page. OrigamiUSA will also post photographs of the exhibition on our own website (see here for some examples) and social network pages (e.g., Facebook, Instagram).

Photography for commercial use is, in general, prohibited. If you wish to take photographs for eventual commercial use, you must obtain permission from both the folder and, if different, the creator of the original artwork.

Exhibiting Your Art

Everyone is welcome to exhibit their artwork at this year's Convention, even if you are not attending yourself (see additional notes below). In order to exhibit, you must fill out the Exhibition Registration form. Here is the essential information on how to exhibit your work:

  • Deadline: You must fill out the Exhibition registration form by July 11 EDT.
  • Space: Tables are 6' (1.8 meters) long and 28" (71 cm) high. Each exhibitor will have a quarter or a half of a table available to them, if space allows (1.5'-3' or 0.45-0.9 meters). The only thing provided to you is the table so any stands or support structures you need must be brought from home. Exhibitors may store packing material under their table at the exhibition.
  • Content: Convention is an all-age, inclusive event. Entries should be appropriate for children to look at and also non-political. If you are not sure of its appropriateness, please ask us at convention-info [at] origamiusa.org.
  • Labels: For each model you exhibit you must bring with you a label that includes the Title of the model, creator, and folder. The label can be flat, tent fold-over cards, or another design that best fits your models. Some exhibitors also include the date of composition and folding, the medium (type of paper, square or other shape), crease pattern (if applicable) etc..
  • Photography: Photography is allowed for personal use only. If you do not wish to allow photography of your work place a prominent notice to that effect at your exhibition space and we will ask visitors to respect that.

Please register for exhibition space by July 11 EDT.

All exhibitors must also register to volunteer for at least one hour to monitor the exhibition.

Setup and Takedown

Setup takes place from 12:00 pm–7:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 am–10:00 am on Saturday.

When you arrive to set up, an exhibition manager will help you locate where your exhibit will be. Space will be assigned ahead of time based on the requirements that you specify on the Exhibition registration form linked above. Your table will have a name card on it with your name based on what you provided in the registration form.

Takedown takes place from 5:00 pm–7:00 pm on Sunday. You are responsible for picking up your artwork at this time. Any pieces left after 7:00 pm on Sunday become property of Origami USA.

If you are not able to attend Convention this year but would like to exhibit your work you must identify someone attending Convention in person to work as your proxy. They will be required to set up and take down your pieces on your behalf during the specified times. Again, any pieces left after 7:00 pm on Sunday become property of Origami USA.

Volunteering

All exhibitors are required to volunteer for at least one hour. When you submit your Exhibition Registration form you will receive a link to sign up for your hour.
