WhatsApp Community

This year we are piloting a WhatsApp community called Convention25 to be able to provide real-time information to attendees during Convention. You can request to join the community by scanning or uploading the QR code below using the WhatsApp camera or using this link. Once you’ve requested to request to join the group, we will approve you to join the community. Participation in the community is not required, though it will streamline communication and we do recommend it.

Once in the community all attendees should join the “FYI/Updates - All Attendees” group. There will also be groups for Teachers and Exhibitors where information that applies only to those individuals will be shared as needed.

To ensure that the Community is safe and used only for its intended purposes, there will be no General Chat feature in any of the groups and we will not be using the Announcements group (found in all WhatsApp communities) to ensure that all communication is from the Convention Committee to attendees only. The community will be deleted after Convention has ended. Please see the WhatsApp FAQ pages on communities if you have any questions about how they work.

TAROS

TAROS has a new location, time and sign up process this year.

  • Location: Bowery (Lower Level) new location!
  • Day: Saturday (no change)
  • Time: 8:00 pm (new time)
  • Sign Ups: For 2025 we have made a simpler process for all who would like to race around the world, origami style. There will be no team sign up ahead of time. This year, teams will be created at 8:00 pm and the game will start shortly after. If you know who you would like to be on your team in advance that’s fine, too. Just make sure everyone is there for 8:00 pm. We recommend ensuring you have the contact information for your teammates ahead of time.

Oversize Folding

Oversize Folding has a new signup process this year, as well as expanded Volunteering opportunities.

  • Signups: For 2025 we have made a simpler process for all who would like to fold giant models. There will be no signups ahead of time. All participants will meet in the Bowery (Lower Level).
  • This year, teams will be created at 8:00 pm and folding will start shortly after. If you know who you would like to be on your team in advance that’s fine, too. Just make sure everyone is there by 8:00 pm. We recommend ensuring you have the contact information for your teammates ahead of time.
  • Volunteering: We continue to invite attendees to volunteer for Oversize Prep to cut the paper for the event. THis work is done starting on Friday morning. We have added more opportunities to engage with Oversize by supporting the movement of folders during the event. This is a great opportunity for a Guardian or an onlooker. Details are in the Volunteering section of the website.

Pick-up for T-shirts and Books

This year, when you pick up your badge and registration kit, you will also be able to pick-up the T-shirts and Origami Collection books that you ordered with your convention registration. Additional T-shirts and books that were not pre-ordered will still be available at The Source.
