Convention 2018 Volunteering: Ticketing

Hang the clipboards on the gate in the ticketing area. There will be hooks on index cards that need to be attached with a twist tie to the gate. These need to be spaced to allow for all of the clipboards holding the class lists to be hung. This work requires standing and a bit of physical effort.

Confirm the reason folks are lining up for Ticketing which can be either they did not sign up for classes online and they need to request classes in person, or they have been assigned classes and want to add, change or remove classes they have been given. Make sure they have the Ticketing Request Form or their Class Assignment Sheet and that they have clearly identified multiple class selections (1st and 2nd choice) for a time slot prior to lining up.

Announce the priority ticketing numbers, so attendees can line up to get or change their class assignments. The number caller is standing at the microphone the entire time. The assistant and the number caller must pay attention to the Line Bouncer to know when to call more numbers. The assistant hangs the numbers and posts the Class Sold Out signs.

Stand at the doorway leading to the ticketing area and organize folks to get in line for ticketing. Let the number caller know when to call the next group of numbers (based on the flow of people into the line). You must stand the entire time.

The line from the Hospitality Area to Ticketing is long and there are critical points in the traffic flow that need to be managed. This requires giving a lot of calm instructions and good people skills. You are standing the entire time. Detailed instructions on the traffic patterns will be given the morning of ticketing.

Review the form presented to determine if the attendee did not sign up online and that he/she has the proper form to request classes or to add, change or remove classes they have been given. If class space is available, add their name to the appropriate class list. As appropriate, remove their name from a class list that they are changing. Stamp their form with an approval check mark. This task was formerly the Ticket Puller task. This job is standing the entire time and is fast paced and requires a patient, cheerful attitude. Priority for this position is given first to those with experience.

Run back and forth between ticketing and the Hospitality Area to hang up the Sold Out signs as classes sell out during the ticketing process.

Foreign attendees who do not speak English may need help getting their class assignments. Let us know if you are available and which language or languages you are comfortable translating.
