Convention 2018 Oversize Folding on Sunday

OrigamiUSA and the OMGNYC (Origami Meetup Group in New York City) are co-sponsoring the Oversized Folding Competition at OrigamiUSA Convention 2018!

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to fold a life sized elephant or an oversized geometric modular or flower? This is your chance to try it out. Even if you don't want to participate, it is fascinating to watch!

The number of teams is limited to 30 so sign-up early! The sign-up sheet will be available at the Information Desk in the Hospitality Area beginning Friday evening and all day on Saturday (until the list is full). You will not be able to sign-up on Sunday. If you don't have a teammate and you would like to participate, we will try to match you up with someone who is also interested.

The event will take place on Sunday Evening.

Here is the planned schedule:

  • 8:00 — Teams get their paper from a location to be announced
  • 8:15–9:00 — Folding, folding, folding (you have 45 minutes to complete your model)
  • 8:30–9:15 — Presentations will begin as soon as some models are complete.
  • 9:15–9:30 — The Judging
  • 9:30–10:00 — Announcement of the winners and prize distribution.

Teams can consist of two to four people depending on how many hands you need for your model. You must sign up for this event and announce which model you plan to fold and the name of your team.

Paper provided for this event will be a 9' square of seamless photo backdrop paper. If you will be folding a modular, please contact Shrikant Iyer at convention-oversize [at] to let him know your requirements.

Entries will be judged on originality, size, and folding skills and there will be lots of fun prizes for various levels of folding as well. New folders are encouraged to try and fold simple models, there will be prizes for multiple categories. Remember simple is always best when folding large.

Paper for this event is provided by the Set Shop. Thank you! Prizes for this event will be sponsored by Jongie Nara. Thank you!
