This class will be a demonstration of hand-papermaking techniques, starting from raw plants, using materials and tools easily found at home. Explanations and demonstrations will be given for preparing plant fiber and students will be able to make their own sheets using pre-prepared white mulberry pulp. Students can either take their wet sheets (and the blotting paper they dry on) or wait for them to dry and collect their sheets in the afternoon at a location to be announced by the teacher. Students who intend to make their own paper should be prepared to get a little wet! Hand towels will be provided for drying off afterwards. If you would like to attend without making paper, that's fine as well. In that case, feel free to just show up. For those making paper, you can either keep your wet sheet (and the blotting paper it drys on) or wait for it to dry and collect it once afternoon classes finish. If you need special arrangements, let me know in class and we can figure things out. Special materials provided include: mulberry pulp, blotting paper, basin for containing water/pulp, mold and deckle for making sheets of paper.
