Convention 2019 Food

If you are staying overnight at St. John's, three meals are included with your accommodations for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: each night of your stay entitles you to dinner that night and breakfast and lunch the next day. So, for example, a Sunday night stay includes dinner Sunday and breakfast and lunch on Monday.

If you are not staying in St. John's housing, or if you are staying and you want additional meals such as dinner on the night of your checkout day, you can register for meals when you register for convention. Meals are available from Friday dinner through Monday lunch only.

Each meal at the St. John's Montgoris Dining Hall is an all-you-can-eat buffet with multiple stations serving a variety of choices (including gluten-free and vegan options). The food is surprisingly appetizing and fresh for a college campus.

There are numerous fast food and grocery store options within several blocks of the school. We will have information available about restaurants that you can reach with a long walk or short bus or taxi ride. You will also be able to purchase dining hall meals on-site, but they will be cheaper if you pre-order them as part of your registration.

Prices for meals at the Montgoris Dining Hall are:

Pre-ordered On-site
Breakfast: $9.00 $10.00
Lunch: $13.00 $15.00
Dinner: $18.00 $20.00

Hours for Montgoris Dining Hall are:

  • Breakfast: 7:00am–9:00am
  • Lunch: 11:00am–2:00pm
  • Dinner: 5:30pm–8:30pm

We will have coffee, decaf and tea available in the Hospitality area before classes.

On Monday night we have a "We've Survived" Banquet Dinner. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet your favorite origami creators and authors, and your new and old friends, in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The banquet will include:

  • Mixed Greens with Carrot, Cucumber, Tomato
  • Sliced Steak with Maple Soy Glaze
  • Chicken Francaise
  • Vegetarian: Penne Primavera with Garlic and Oil
  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes
  • Mixed Seasonal Vegetables
  • Tuscan Rolls and Butter
  • Dessert: Cake, Assorted Cookies and Mixed Seasonal Fruit
  • Beverages: Coffee, Tea, Decaf, Soda, Water

The cost is $45.00. If you wish to have beer or wine with dinner, you can purchase tickets at the Info Desk before the dinner at $5.00 per drink. In order to keep the prices reasonable, we've opted for a more casual atmosphere, replacing formal china and linens with less formal place settings — but the food will be good and the camaraderie as rich as ever. If you do not join us at the Monday Banquet, there will be no other dining option on campus that night.
