Finally, I will have a chance to teach this little origami jewel by Roman Diaz! (Meant for Special Sessions 2020) It is a 3D bird that makes a nice shelf or plant ornament. Fold this intermediate model with tips for shaping and prepping paper for color changes.
I was surprised to find no single-sheet origami suspension bridges other than Jeremy Shafer's Dollar-bill Golden Gate Bridge, so I tried designing my own. The model requires a 2x1 rectangle and is based on a 36x18 grid. For a first fold, I would recommend a sheet at least 12" x 6" (30cm x 15cm). This results in a folded model size (height x length x width) 2" x 7" x 1" (5cm x 17cm x 2cm) with the smallest features being about 1/4" (5mm) wide pleats. If you are not comfortable folding narrow pleats, it would be a good idea to start with a larger sheet.
We will discuss why and how to become a volunteer origami teacher. Volunteers bring origami to new audiences and communities. Topics will includes:
--my origami story
--myths about prerequisites for teaching
--how bringing origami to new audiences is different from teaching origami enthusiasts
--teaching origami for well-being, the health benefits of origami
--tips for teaching
--appropriate models to teach
--where to teach and how to get started
--resources for teaching
The Popping Christmas Star is a fun and easy to construct modular made from five pieces of paper.
As suggested the Popping Christmas star is an action model and will pop up into a tent shape when moved, making for a fun and beautiful table decoration.
The model can also form a tear drop hanging bauble for the Christmas tree.
Lastly the Christmas star can be transformed into an elegant flower with petals in the shape of a star.
If you are intimidated by open sinks, come to this class. You can practice your open sink skills by folding this 4 point star from a square. It's a star suitable for a beginner. Add a string to the star and it's a lovely ornament.
You don’t need whirling, twirling fingers to take this class. Actually, slow and steady might be the ticket. Starting with David Mitchell’s original 6-piece Darwin Cyclone, Maddalena will share tips and tricks for making larger variations (12, 20, 30, etc.). She will also show you how to make these cyclones into ornaments and wreaths.
Exciting! For the first time ever (!) I will be teaching mask folding LIVE at this years virtual convention, come join me! This is a once in a lifetime opotunity to fold your very own Jackson's Origami leaf mask, now in a virtual classroom. You will learn a basic understanding of how to fold masks. Then when we are finished with the lesson you can fold as many masks as you want. I can't wait to fold origami masks with you all, this is going to be lots of fun. - (I think I wrote mask like 5 times in this text^^)
