In this class, we fold the tropical fish "Pennant coralfish".
Folding this model requires understanding how to open sink.

Hexagonal Tile or Snowflake

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Shimabukuro Yasuko
Teacher(s)
Andrea Plate

Whether you choose to use this model to make a hexagonal wall quilt, embellish a card, or just enjoy it backlit in a window, folding this tile is a series of "Wows". The symmetry requires repeating each step 6 times. The first 2 repeats will be actively demonstrated after which you will independently fold the remaining 4 repeats (though clarifying questions will, of course, be answered). The most challenging aspect of folding this model is managing all the flaps at various stages.

Rose of Roses

Level
Low Intermediate
Creator(s)
Jordi Adell Capdevila
Teacher(s)
Jordi Adell Capdevila

It is a variation of the simple Kawasaki’s rose. I created it in year 2012. It is dedicated to a village in Costa Brava called “Roses”

Snowflake

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Dennis Walker
Teacher(s)
Martin Quinn

This is a brand new Snowflake from Dennis Walker - many of you will have previously folded a version of his earlier design, but this is a new unpublished model. In terms of difficulty it is not a difficult model per say, the "trickiest" step from a technical perspective being spread squash but as spread squashes go this one is as straightforward as they get. It is a two hour class simply due to the amount of folding, rather than any particular difficulties.

8x8 Flippable Pixel Grid

Level
Supercomplex
Creator(s)
Jason Ku
Teacher(s)
Jason Ku

This is a super-complex color-change model of an 8x8 pixel grid, where each pixel can be flipped independently between two colors via a single diagonal fold. More efficient flippable 8x8 pixel grid models exist, e.g., from a 32x32 grid, but this model from a 34x34 grid benefits from having four-fold rotational symmetry, thus being easier to fold. For the sake of time, we will only be folding one quarter of the model from one quarter of a square during class. You can fold the full model by repeating the sequence four times with the aid of the recordings.

Butterfly

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Matthew Green
Teacher(s)
Matthew Green

This butterfly model has a simple-looking front, but has antennae. It’s not as easy as it looks! It’s relatively easy to modify the final model to alter the shape of the wings. Folding the model includes rabbit-ear folds, squash folds, petal folds, swivel folds, an open sink… Recommended paper size is at least 6” (15cm); less experienced folders should use larger paper.

INFINY

Level
Low Intermediate
Creator(s)
Miyuki Kawamura
Teacher(s)
Ayumi Hayatsu

"Infiny" is a modular model created by Miyuki Kawamura. The picture shows a 6-unit model and a12-unit model folded with Tant paper.

Sonobe Unit (with variation)

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Mitsunobu Sonobe
Teacher(s)
Zander Bolgar

This class serves as an introduction to Sonobe unit modular models - no prior modular experience is needed!

We will learn:
* How to fold the base Sonobe unit (with an optional single fold variation for a color change)
* How to assemble a 6 unit model (cube)
* How to assemble a 12 unit model (stellated octahedron). You are welcome to take apart your cube and only fold 6 additional units.
* I will also demonstrate how to assemble a 30 unit model (stellated icosahedron), but I don't expect everyone to finish folding 30 units.

Alice Gray’s Kleenex Box Cover

Level
Simple
Creator(s)
Alice Gray, with modifications by Mark Burger
Teacher(s)
Mark Burger

Have you ever wished that you could put “Big Tissue” in their place and design your own, nicer covers for the boxes of Kleenex that you use? Would you like to learn how to make such crisp and elegant covers for yourself or as welcome gifts to friends?

Penguin

Level
High Intermediate
Creator(s)
Oriol Esteve
Teacher(s)
James Peake

A somewhat challenging (high intermediate) Penguin designed by Oriol Esteve, from his most recent book "Fold With the Flow". This model is FULL of character, and can be finished with a number of different variations for the eyes and beak. You will definitely want to use square paper that is at least 24cm /9.4in on one edge.

Lil' Green Guy

Level
Low Intermediate
Creator(s)
James Peake
Teacher(s)
James Peake

The force is strong with this one, yes! Learn a simple variation on the traditional jumping frog to create a certain Star Wars character, be it a weathered Jedi Master or a fabled child.

Owl

Level
Low Intermediate
Creator(s)
Robin Glynn
Teacher(s)
Claire LANDRE

Model : Owl
Creator : Robin Glynn
Level : Low Intemediate
Comments from the author : This owl started life as a talking puppet head. I liked the eyes, and have tried and failed to make an owl model quite a few times. It is surprising (and part of the magic of origami) how one model can turn into something completely different.

Guru-guru Box

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Akiko Yamanashi
Teacher(s)
Belle Fernandez

An Akiko Yamanashi creation, this modular box is made with 2 sheets of square paper, preferably duo or two colours, to distinguish the modules from each other. Each module have a handedness, one folded one way and the other the reverse. It has a cleaver assembly, as the units are interleaved and twisted opposite each other until it locks in place.

Flat Cat

Level
Low Intermediate
Creator(s)
Stefano Borroni
Teacher(s)
Shrikant Iyer

This is my first of Tribute to Italy model after models by Italian creators. Cute model with couple of variations. It is a low intermediate model and makes a cat with plenty of options, skinny/fat/color change. It also lays flat and ideal for flat use like pins/cards/atc etc.

Ornamental Omega 5

Level
High Intermediate
Creator(s)
Meenakshi Mukerji
Teacher(s)
Anjana Vaidyaraman

This model is simple to make and the result is beautiful! It is made up of twelve units We will start by making two or three units together in the first hour. Then I will demonstrate how to put the units together to make the finished model. This will probably take about half an hour. You can use the remaining half hour to continue making units and assembling the finished piece.

Compound Squares Tessellation

Level
Complex
Creator(s)
Madonna Yoder
Teacher(s)
Madonna Yoder

We will be folding the Mirrored Compound Squares Tessellation by Madonna Yoder and discussing variations on the pattern, including how to generalize the compounding method to other twists, how to add spacing between twists, and different arrangements of twists. We will also cover a method for grid division in thirds that is applicable to any odd grid divisions.

Alice Gray’s Omega Star Secret

Level
Intermediate
Creator(s)
Shen/Sullivan
Teacher(s)
Jan Polish

The omega star is a wonderful six piece modular, but extremely difficult to fold with perfect points unless you are a very precise folder. I am not. When I complained to Alice Gray about my sloppy points, she taught me her method of folding the star. It’s a slower process, with lots of pre-creasing, but the results are well worth it!
