These are the supplies needed for the classes for Convention 2024. Times are in your local time zone (change time zone). Printable version.
Attendees are urged to bring their best folding tools to “show & tell” the group.
I will supply all materials.
• 1 piece of kami paper 6 x 6 inches for the rabbit (white on one side and pink on the other)
• 1 piece of kami paper 6 x 6 inches for the carrot (orange on one side and green on the other). Alternatively, to achieve the color change, we can work with 2 pieces of paper, one green and one orange.
40 sheets of 3" kami (You can cut the 6" kami in your survival kit.) or 3" foil. (If you prefer smaller paper, prepare 40 or so of the same size sheets). You can choose any color of sheets. Pattern in the photo is just an example.
Scissors or paper cutter to make a joint piece in size.
This is a modular design and requires 6 sheets of paper. 6" x 6" kami works well. To be consistent with Mondrian's style the color must be Red, Black, Blue, or Yellow on one side and White on the other. It's possible to use duo kami, i.e. Red/Yellow, Black/Red, Black/Yellow, Blue/Yellow... One sheet for the bookmark.
- (1) 6 inch sheet of black and white kami will be provided. 6 inch will produce a 4 inch high model while a 12 inch sheet will produce an 8 inch model which I think looks best.
- (1) 6 inch or larger sheet of kami to practice a component of this fold.
The model will be folded from a 30 x 30 cm uncut square sheet of paper, with one side's color for the boat (say, brown) and the other side's color for the sail (say, white). Glue can be used to better shape the model.
2 pieces of 10' or 12" Foil
A bone folder and clip or two would be helpful.
6” kami
30 sheets of A4 paper
students will need 20 x 10 cm rectangular paper for this origami
8 or more of six inch kami from the same color. All students are welcome to trade or exchange paper with each other if necessary.
4 pieces of 6 inch kami - same color or 2 colors. Students bring 3 inch kami to class.
It takes 8 square sheets of paper to create. I usually use 7.5 cm kami for it, but for the model above, I am using metallic paper.
If anyone needs to cut 15 cm paper, I will be bringing my paper cutter for people to use. :)
At least one 12 inch X 12 inch piece of paper (but no larger than 15 X 15) I would recommend regular origami paper, not foil. I will provide paper for the class.
Paper: 3 pieces of 6” x 6”
Cutting tool
Pencil
Supplies will be provided, but students can bring their own business cards, index cards, 8.5” x 11” or magazine covers if they like.
I will provide supplies.
3.25-3.6 inch squares, preferably kami
Large to sided sheet to accomplish the color change, foil is a plus for shaping. 12 inch or larger
The Leaf Star can be folded with kami. Tools like clips and poking implements like skewers and tweezers will be helpful.
I will provide paper. 8 squares the same size. Kami, foil, printer paper, or scrapbook paper.
Duo could be nice; the minor color shows a little on the front and shows more on the back.
3 in. paper gives a 4.5 in. model
4 in. paper gives a 6 in. model
5.5 in. paper gives a 8.5 in. model, use the heavier weight paper.
3-4 sheets of your own junk mail if you have any
A single square of larger kami is recommended (10"/25cm). With more practice you can use smaller sheets.
Bring glue to shape with (regular white school glue will be perfect).
I will be providing paper to fold with, but if you want to use your own, I recommend bringing something similar to 40+cm Double Tissue (25gsm)
Mizuhiki Cords that will be provided by the teacher for small fee.
3 pieces of Kami which will be cut into 1x2 rectangles.
6 inch kami should work.
Five 6" kami sheets.
2 sets of 2 like-colored sheets of 6-inch kami. 4 sheets in all. Each of the 2 models is made from two sheets of same-colored paper.
A piece of A4 paper (21 x 29.7 cm)
8 square sheets per star, 3" or 4". Duo recommended as both sides will show. We will fold one star and learn modified folding sequence for 2 more.
Please bring 9" paper (although 9" kami will be provided).
10" sheet of kami recommended. Can be done with 6" as well.
I'll bring big squares of tant paper, one for each student.
10 inch sheet of paper, or if daring a 6 inch.
I will supply the paper and scissors (for cutting out the hexagon)
6 sheets of square 6" kami or foil paper.
~20 square papers (any size, preferably around 2-4")
A single square of larger kami is recommended (10"/25cm). With more practice you can use smaller sheets.
Teacher will need large paper. Students will need 3” paper. Double sided paper works well.
8 sheets (4 for bottom and 4 for lid)
No supplies required from students
none needed
6-inch kami
recommend 4 pieces of 6" foil
I'll bring pre-cut circles for each participant. If we will have time for the square version they will need to bring 6 sheets of 3" kami.
Please bring 12 ALREADY FOLDED cranes, made from six inch kami in colors that look good together.
One wants to make an attractive wreath, not a jumble. We will do two variations, an eight crane ring and a four crane ring. You do not need to finish folding the crane's tails.
Each student should bring a square sheet of paper with a side length of approximately 30 cm. Glue may be used for shaping purposes.
Students may find tweezers or a bone folder helpful, but they are not necessary.
I will provide paper. 10 squares the same size, kami. Duo is best, even white. The minor color adds to the design on the front and shows a little on the edges on the back.
Patterns are fun – including floral, geometric, kaleidoscope, tie-dye, asymmetrical patterns.
Use 2 colors or 5 colors. OR do all 10 the same.
6 inch paper gives an 8.5 inch model
4 inch paper gives a 6 inch model
3 inch paper gives a 4 inch model
8 pieces of 10 inch kami for teaching. Students bring 3 inch kami to class.
6” kami is perfect!
10 inch of 6 inch if preferred. Harmony paper makes a nice design.
Eight squares in two colours. The paper can have the same colour on both sides or different colours (origami paper or duo). Origami or duo paper, printer paper or memo cube paper are suitable.
Squares as small as 3 inches will be ok for students with some folding experience. 4 inch squares will be more comfortable, especially for less experienced students. 6 inch squares may produce a star that's bigger than needed. (Quartering two 6 inch squares to make eight 3 inch squares is more economical and may give better results)
A pack of pre-cut equilateral triangles will be provided. While the model can stay together without adhesives, a dab of glue helps in keeping the model together & more sturdy.
A few sheets of 6 in by 6 in kami
You will use many sheets of kami (6"/15cm) for these exercises, so be sure to have at least a dozen on hand.
1 sheet kami, Duo is nice, 6" or larger
6 inch kami, duo color because there is a color change. Optional items: bone folder, small sharp tool for small folds, glue
I'll bring pre-cut hexagons for each participant.
As much interesting paper as you feel like playing with--in addition to the OUSA provided materials
A smock or apron.
Newspaper to protect the table
Your own models that you don't mind painting.
Modulars tend to fall apart. I have had wonderful results with a fujimoto tessellation
I will provide the paper for the class.
Borrowing some scissors from Origami USA for making the pentagon would be helpful.
10" kami, provided. If you would like, you can use a slightly bigger sheet of tissue foil or something thick, it will make shaping easier and will also look better.
15 cm/6" kami
Mizuhiki Cords that will be provided by the teacher for small fee.
Please bring a decently thick paper for this model. For my fold, I used 50cm Lokta but any thick paper over 30cm in size will work fine. I may have some tant paper available if you need paper. You will also need some glue to hold things together in the final fold.
For the practical exercise, it's mandatory to have something to take notes with and something to take notes on.
6 " Kami
I will provide paper not in the paper pack.
Each flower needs only 2 sheets, one for the flower and one for the stem, so two in total.
Paper, 30x30 cm.
Glue
10in paper
6 sheets of 6 in by 6 in kami
Ruler, exacto knife (preferred) or scissors, square duo-color paper 8” or larger, bone folder
One sheet of 6" kami.
The cricket only takes one sheet. We will use additional sheets for grass and other things for the cricket to hide in.
2 sheets duo kami 6x6
Paper will be provided by the instructor.
White glue,
twist ties,
water,
small (~0.25" wide) paint brush,
intermediate to complex origami models for experimentation.
Students should bring:
Scissors
Bling bling for decorating
Glue
I will supply paper. Bone folders are a help.
(1) 25cm square of paper
10 sheets of 6” Kami paper and a few more sheets for a variation if there’s time.
40 or more sheets of 3" kami or foil paper. (a little larger or smaller size is fine, but all sheets have to be the same size.)
One sheet of 10 inch kami paper.
Teacher will provide 24cm plain kami to fold during class.
*You can't enter this activity without a pen or pencil, and paper!
The model is foldable from regular 6” Kami, but I recommend something about 20-30 cm for a first attempt, and nothing thicker than Kami.
I need teaching supplies of large Greenx3 and Large Redx3 Kami
Bigger the better :)
A paper cutter to cut a big sheet into 8 pieces. For the color-change version, students will need 9 squares of duo kami. 3" are ok. I'll bring one big sheet for each student for the single-color version.
8-inch harmony would be best, but kami is fine too.
(1) 25cm square of paper
Recommended sheet size: 30 x 30 cm
Recommended sheet color: one side blue or green, the other side white
35cm+ paper, kami is fine, thinner papers are ideal.
Bone folder or other creasing tool recommended. We will use heavy cardstock paper.
Just a sheet of Kami paper; a 28x28 inch square of paper will give you a hat that fits an adult head.
A 10" kami square. Slightly thicker paper like Tant is nice, but not required. We will, time permitting, fold the model twice.
I will bring pentagons for the students.
15inch kami works totally fine, but 15-25inch foil paper or handmade papers + glue work very well for this fold. It can even be wetfolded with larger thicker papers (25-30cm) (90+ gsm)
A single square of larger kami is recommended (10"/25cm). With more practice you can use smaller sheets.
For the book there will be a minimum of six sheets of paper needed. This will produce a book with one inside page. The sheets need to be all the same size and should be rectangles (squares ok). There will be one sheet for the spine of the book, two sheets for the covers, a number of sheets for the inside pages and one sheet more than for the inside pages, for the connectors.
For the storigami, one 6 inch square and one 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet.
Dollar bills for folding; a creasing tool will be helpful.
Cutting tool
I will provide paper. Any strong, thin paper will do. Paper must be larger than 6” and foil will be difficult.
Paper will be provided by the instructor.
This model can be folded with almost any size and type of paper. For your first attempt, 6" Kami or 20 cm Special Tissue Foil (available at the Source) will work fine.
Seven sheets of kami will be needed (6"/15cm) for a complete set of pieces
- 6in Kami is ok but I would use 12in paper for a model that stands about 9 inches tall. That size makes it a nice figure to place up high. The model can flat fold for transport.
