The box bottom was created by V’Ann Cornelius, who used an exact duplicate for the box top. Arnold learned the model from V’Ann many years ago. He added the jewel and the technique for sizing the bottom sheet to allow for the paper that the jewel takes up.

You will need two sheets of crisp paper. Twenty cm (8 inches) is a good starting size.

Tomoko Fuse also discovered the basic box shape and published it as a tulip in “Spiral Origami” (2019, ISBN 978-3-941327-08-5) and perhaps elsewhere.

Arnold writes, “It is interesting to convert many of the box models with masu bottoms to boxes with the Tomoko/V’Ann one.” — Jane Rosemarin
