Maria Sinayskaya, well known for her modular origami creations and author of “Zen Origami: 20 Modular Forms for Meditation and Calm,” has released an enchanting new book, “Origami Stars: The Red Book.”

Full of beautiful color photos of nine families of models, the book begins with helpful tips on paper, basic diagram symbols and other information to aid in successful folding of the models. In particular, Maria shows how to orient the paper to achieve various results with color, including with patterned and harmony papers.

Models are organized by family. For each of these, the difficulty level, paper-color suggestions and model variations are presented. The diagrams and folding sequences are clear and logical, and you will find Maria’s signature secure locks throughout.

The nine families of models range from Dorianna and Vivianna, with two models each, to Susanna with nine models, to six additional families with various numbers of models and variations. There are many similarities among the designs and folding sequences, ensuring that as you progress through the book, you will be able to fold accurately and consistently to create eye-catching stars and their impressive variations.

I can’t say enough good things about this book; it has been worth the wait. Maria’s stars are among my favorite models in all of origami. I especially appreciate the information she provides with each model on the paper color needed to achieve the beautiful result she demonstrates. This book will inspire you to create many variations of colorful stars to enjoy and share.
