In China, we refer to Origami as “折纸” (“Zhe Zhi”). We sometimes say “Die Zhi.” I am honored to see my Blue and White Origami Cup in The Fold.
Years ago, studying vessel designs by origami masters ignited my ambition to interpret Chinese ceramics through paper. This piece is my tribute to their inspiration. I have folded a lot of Chinese porcelain, and this small cup is among the more easily folded. The calculation process of creases was not very difficult, but the cup is small and cute and has the distinctive blue and white pattern seen in Chinese porcelain. I believe you will also like it, and the surface pattern can be changed according to your own preferences. This crease pattern is applicable to rectangular paper. Circular paper will have slight differences. Each step requires precise drawing, precise calculation, and precise folding.
What new possibilities does origami hold? This is a question I constantly ask myself, and this sense of possibility continually drives me to take on new challenges. Here, I want to express my gratitude to origami masters worldwide — I’ve learned so much from you, and I sincerely thank you for your contributions to the global art of paper folding.
The folding continues; the path unfolds ahead. (This message is for me and for all origami enthusiasts alike.)
